Peace

We all need peace.
Life around us can be chaotic, falling to bits and a fog of the unknown - but if we have peace of mind, of heart, of spirit we can still live in peace.  Peace is about acceptance and using the mind to focus on that which truly matters.
You are acceptable for who you are - as you are
and only you stands in the way of making that a reality.

The Soul Bird

Soul Bird
~ Michal Snunit~

Deep down,
inside our bodies,
lives the soul.
No one has ever seen it,
but we all know it's there.
Not only do we know it's there,
we know what's in it, too.

Inside the soul,
right in the very middle of it,
there is a bird standing on one foot.
This is the soul bird.
It feels everything we feel.
When someone hurts our feelings,
the soul bird runs round and round in pain
When someone loves us,
it hops and skips
up and down
backwards and forwards
When someone calls our name,
it listens carefully
to hear what kind of call it is.
When someone is angry with us,
it curls itself into a ball
and is silent and sad.

And when someone hugs us,
the soul bird, deep down inside,
grows and grows
until it almost fills us.
That's how good it feels when someone hugs us

Deep down, inside, lives the soul.
No one has ever seen it,
but we all know it's there.
Never, never has a person been born..
who didn't have a soul.
It sparks the moment we are born
and never leaves us-
not even once-
for as long as we live.
It's like the air that people breathe
from the moment they are born
until the time they die.

-Do you want to know what the soul bird is made of?
Well, it's really quite simple:
it's made of drawers.
These drawers can't be opened just like that-
because each is locked with its own special key!
Only the soul bird can open its drawers.
How?

Ah, that's quite simple too:
with its other foot.

-The soul bird stands one one foot,
and with its other foot..
(tucked under its wing when it's resting)
it turns the key to the drawer it wants to open,
pulls the handle, and lets everything inside- out!

-Because there is a drawer for everything we feel,
the soul bird has many, many drawers:
one for being happy and one for being sad;
one for being jealous and one for being content;
one for being hopeful and one for being hopeless;
one for being patient and one for being impatient.
There is also one for hating and for being loved.
There is even a drawer for being lazy and one for being vain.
And there is a special drawer for your deepest secret -
which is hardly ever opened.
There are other drawers too -
whatever drawers you dream of.

Sometimes you can tell the bird..
which keys to turn and which drawers to open.
Sometimes the bird will choose especially for you.
Like, when you want to be silent
and order the soul bird to open the silence drawers.
But the bird decides all by itself
to open the talking drawer
and you talk and talk
without even wanting to.
You want to listen patiently,
but the soul bird opens his impatience drawer
and you become impatient.

Sometimes you get jealous without meaning to.
And sometimes you get in the way when you only want to help.
The soul bird does not always do what it is told
and gets things in a mess.
By now you've understood that everyone is different
because there's a difference soul bird deep inside.
The bird opens the happiness drawer each day
pours happiness into your body
and you will be happy.

But if the bird opens the anger drawer
he will be angry
until the bird closes the drawer behind him.
A bird who feels bad
will open up the drawers
which make you feel bad.

A bird who feels good
will open up the drawers
which make you feel good.
Most important is to listen to the soul bird,
because sometimes it calls us and we don't hear it.
This is a shame- it wants to tell us about ourselves.
It wants to tell us about the feelings
that are locked up inside its drawers.

Some of us hear it all the time.
Some almost never.
And some of us hear it
only once in a lifetime.

That's why it'a good idea -
maybe late at night when everything is quiet -
to listen to the soul bird
deep down inside us.

If The World Were A Village...

Sometimes its important to take time to count our blessings.
This time isn't about feeling guilty for what you have, pining for what you dont have - but just about taking time to recognise those treasures in your life no matter what else may be going on.

If you woke up this morning healthy ... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the fear and loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pain of starvation ... you are better off than 500 million people in the world.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep ... you are more comfortable than 75% of the people in this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace ... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If you can read this, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.

You Are Strong Enough... You Survived!

Whoever you are, wherever you are - no matter what you experienced or how hard those experiences may have been - you are still here.

You did it.  And I know sometimes life gets so hard and it feels like you're barely hanging on but you are still here.  I believe with all my heart that we each have within us all the strength we need to live out our lives and a little more put beside.

YOU have within you all the strength you need not only to endure, persevere and survive - but to love, live and thrive.  This darkness will end and this storm will pass.  I can't tell you when and I can't rescue you - though I would if I could - but I can tell you with absolute faith that there is a beautiful, colourful, joyful life ahead of you, just hold on, trust in yourself, draw from the strength within you and have faith the future, in healing and that all storms - no matter how vicious - come to an end.

Mindy McCready - I'm Still Here - beautiful, comforting and encouraging.

Whatever your battle you need to know that you are not alone.  Sometimes it helps to know that and to draw strength from that.  Particularly if you are battling depression, anxiety and other mental health problems(and even physical illness or social problems) which make you feel so isolated and have caused you to withdraw from others.

My best friend recently spoke about Prozac Nation - a novel Elizabeth Wurtzel which expresses her experiences of deep depression.  She spoke about how much it helped to be able to connect to someone else's experiences and to know it wasnt just her fighting these battles.  There is that sense of community and companionship whether you know someone who is experiencing similar issues to you are not.  Sometimes just knowing there are others out there fighting too can really help and beyond that - being aware of those who have faced their battles and won them demonstrates that as difficult as this may be to push through- it's not impossible.

This is a difficult thing to acknowledge I think when you're in the midst of hard times - but these experiences help to shape who they are.  They strengthen you, give you confidence in your abilities and strength and courage.  It sounds a little hippy-fied but there is growth in those experiences.  Personally I believe nothing is wasted.  For every wound, there is potential for healing, and in that healing comes a capacity to connect with others and to say the most powerful words one can here in the midst of a lonely battle - "I Know".

This darkness will not last.
And you can be sure you can hold out for the life
because you are strong enough
you have lived thus far and
YOU SURVIVED!

Hugs!

Ok so the topic du jour is HUGS!!!

HUG: To squeeze (someone) tightly in one's arms, to comfort, to greet, to love -
                   to express emotion beyond words.

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need.

This guy is a legend and he doesnt impose hugs but offers them and his one man mission is now a world wide campaign.  Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whos sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.  Im not suggesting you go hugging strangers (though feel free!) but maybe there is someone you know right now who needs a cuddle, maybe you need one - remember you can't give a hug without getting one!

Feel awkward and unsure about hugging check out this video on the principles and purpose of hugging - sounds lame but its actually interesting and quite beautiful.

Gratitude is the Heart's Memory

"You can become blind by seeing each day as a similar one.
Each day is a different one,
each day brings a miracle of its own.
It's just a matter of paying attention to this miracle."
~Paulo Coelho~

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary
Because it means you’ve made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.
